In a major diplomatic shift, France has decided to officially recognize the State of Palestine, signaling a renewed push for peace in the Middle East.
President Emmanuel Macron is expected to make the formal declaration during his address at the UN General Assembly in September. In a letter sent to Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, Macron stressed that lasting peace is not possible without the creation of a Palestinian state.
He added that France’s decision is based on a firm and principled belief in justice, peace, and international law.
Macron Calls for Urgent Gaza Aid and Hostage Release
Alongside the recognition, Macron highlighted the urgent need for large-scale humanitarian aid for the people of Gaza. He also demanded the immediate release of all hostages, underscoring France’s commitment to human rights and peacebuilding.
