A team of Chinese scientists has claimed to have developed the world’s lightest brain-control device, specifically designed for honeybees. This breakthrough could open new doors in bio-robotics and insect behavioral research.
Ultra-Lightweight: Only 74 Milligrams
The device weighs only 74 milligrams — lighter than the honey sac in a bee’s abdomen where nectar is stored, according to the research team. This makes it the lightest known device of its kind in the world.
Direct Brain Interface with the Bee
Under the leadership of Professor Zhao Jiliang, researchers at the Beijing Institute of Technology have created a system that connects directly to the brain of the bee.
When the tiny device is mounted on the back of the honeybee, three micro-needles are inserted into its brain. These needles allow operators to send electrical pulses to control the bee’s flight.
Full Control Over the Bee’s Movement
Through precise electric signals, scientists were able to control the bee’s direction of flight, effectively turning it into a mini bio-drone. The bees responded to instructions and flew as commanded.
90% Accuracy in Obeying Commands
According to the research published in the Chinese Journal of Mechanical Engineering, the bees obeyed commands with up to 90% accuracy during the experimental phase.
A New Era in Scientific Innovation
This invention is not limited to honeybees. In the future, such brain-control technology could be applied to other insects or small creatures. Potential applications include:

جب یہ ڈیوائس مکھی کی پشت پر نصب کی جاتی ہے تو اس میں موجود تین باریک سوئیاں مکھی کے دماغ میں داخل کی جاتی ہیں، جس کے ذریعے آپریٹرز مکھی کے دماغ کو برقی پیغامات بھیج سکتے ہیں۔
